Kathleen Mawson | Therapeutic Advisor | Ianthe House

Kathleen is a consultant psychiatrist and senior lecturer at the University of Stellenbosch Department of Psychiatry in Cape Town, South Africa. She oversees one of the acute admission wards as well as the Eating Disorders unit at Tygerberg Hospital. Her research interests include community mental health and health systems, eating disorders and bariatric surgery, and evidence-based treatments for psychiatric illnesses and personality pathology.

Dr. Mawson is also the departmental liaison for the International postgraduate (supernumerary) portfolio, and the mental health representative to the provincial Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee. She is a passionate advocate for evidence-based psychological and pharmacological treatment provision to communities in LMIC settings and holds a post-graduate diploma in Public Mental Health.
